Featured Teller - Sharon Kennedy

Sharon Kennedy, storytellerSharon Kennedy of Medford, Massachusetts lives a life of storytelling.

A professional storyteller for 30 years, she’s told stories and taught storytelling throughout the United States.

Sharon has produced five CDs that have won awards and accolades from Parents' Choice and Publishers Weekly, told stories on National Public Radio and on ABC-TV's "Good Morning America" and was featured in a Yankee Magazine article entitled "60 People Who Make New England New England."

She has a dozen one-hour one-woman shows, from that of a Lowell mill girl to the wife of James Joyce.

Irish and Latino stories from Lawrence, Massachusetts are featured in her performance “Emilia and Mrs. Finn."

Stories from one of the oldest African-American communities in Massachusetts are in her book Voices of West Medford.

Family stories and folktales from Haitian immigrants in Medford and three nearby towns can be found on

On a recent month-long trip to Ghana and Burkina Faso, Sharon collected stories now featured in "Folktales from West Africa." Primarily for children, the program includes photos and maps and ends with the whole audience dancing to Ghanaian music.
